What Size TV Stand Do I Need? TV Inches to Stand Width Chart (UK)
TVs are sold by diagonal inches; TV stands are sold by width in centimetres. That mismatch is why so many living rooms end up with a 65-inch screen overhanging a 120 cm unit. This chart converts one to the other, with the stand widths that look balanced and the Decortie TV units that fit each size.
The quick rule
TV size to stand width chart
| TV size (diagonal) | Approx. TV width | Recommended stand width | Decortie units in this range |
|---|---|---|---|
| 32–43 in | 71–95 cm | 100–120 cm | Pipralla 110, Thales corner 110, Yuki 118 |
| 48–50 in | 106–111 cm | 130–150 cm | Francy 135 (wall-mounted), Inca 140, Norm 140, Cornea 150 |
| 55 in | 122 cm | 150–165 cm | Cornea 150, Ralla 158, Jakomen 160, Inca 164 |
| 60–65 in | 133–144 cm | 170–180 cm | Yuki 170, Dune 180, Combe 180 (floating), Conrad 180 (floating), Vena 180, Fiona 180 |
| 75 in | 166 cm | 180 cm or wider | Dune 180, Vena 180, Combe 180 — or two units side by side |
Widths in the table are the usual range for each size; your TV's exact width is on the box or spec sheet (look for "width without stand"). If your TV has wide-set feet rather than a central pedestal, the stand's top must also be wider than the gap between the feet.

Height: aim for eye level
When you are sitting on the sofa your eyes are about 100–110 cm from the floor. The centre of the screen should be close to that. For most 50–65 inch TVs a stand 40–55 cm high gets you there; low-board units around 40 cm suit larger screens, 50–55 cm units suit smaller ones. Wall-mounted (floating) units let you set the height exactly — fix them so the TV centre lands at eye level.
Depth: 35–40 cm is enough
Modern TVs are thin, so stand depth is about the equipment inside: a games console or soundbar needs 35–40 cm. Deeper units eat floor space in small rooms for no benefit. All Decortie TV units are 35–40 cm deep and include cable openings.
Units by TV size
Up to 43 inch TVs — 100–120 cm units

75 inch TVs and above
A 75-inch TV is around 166 cm wide, so a 180 cm unit is the minimum and looks right only if the TV's feet sit well inside it. For a genuinely wide media wall, two 110 cm units side by side (220 cm) or a floating 180 cm unit with open shelving either side gives better proportions.
Corner and floating units: the exceptions
Corner units are measured along the front edge, but what matters is the usable top: a 110 cm corner unit carries TVs up to about 50 inches. Floating units follow the same width rule as freestanding ones but can be mounted at any height, so they fix the eye-level problem in rooms where the sofa is low or the TV is large. Our guides to floating vs freestanding units and corner TV units go deeper.

Frequently asked questions
What size TV stand do I need for a 55 inch TV?
A 55-inch TV is about 122 cm wide, so a stand of 150–165 cm looks balanced and leaves 14–20 cm each side for a soundbar or lamp. 140 cm is the practical minimum.
What size TV stand do I need for a 65 inch TV?
A 65-inch TV is about 144 cm wide. Choose a stand of 170–180 cm; a 180 cm unit is the standard pairing in UK living rooms.
Can a TV be wider than the stand?
It can sit on it if the TV's feet fit within the top, but it looks top-heavy and is less stable. The stand should be at least as wide as the TV, ideally 10–15 cm wider on each side.
How high should a TV stand be?
Seated eye level is around 100–110 cm from the floor. For a 50–65 inch TV a stand 40–55 cm high puts the centre of the screen close to eye level.
Do I measure my TV by its diagonal or width?
TVs are sold by diagonal in inches, but stands are chosen by width in cm. Multiply the diagonal by 2.2 to get the approximate width in cm (55 in × 2.2 ≈ 121 cm).
What about TVs with wide-set feet?
Many modern TVs have feet near the edges rather than a central pedestal. Check the distance between the feet in the TV's spec sheet — the stand's top must be wider than that figure.
